HOW BENGALURU KEPT COVID-19 COUNT AT A MINIMUM
PEOPLE WEARING MASKS AND MAINTAINING SOCIAL DISTANCING
In many parts of the country Covid-19 cases are increasing sharply but Bengaluru has contained the virus with great success so far. The tech capital has a population of 10 million, has recorded 452 Covid-19 cases and only 162 are active. The other patient are recovered. There are only 13 Covid-19 related deaths in the city so far.
This is in sharp contrast in comparison to other metros in the country.Mumbai has reported 46000 positive cases, Delhi 26000, Chennai 19000 and Kolkata 2000.
Cohesive approach:-The administration has realised that more people will be flying into Bengaluru from Covid affected countries. So they roped in all agencies and made it clear, there should be no chinks in the armour.1.4 Lakh international travellers were screened and their movement were monitered. Their primary and secondary contact are kept under observation.Coordination between civic agency, health and home departments was effective and spread of infection from the travellers was minimal.
Monitoring affected zones
Mapping of containment zones and predictive modelling are the key factors.Every time a case was reported, the locality was sealed and resident’s movement was regulated. When a case was reported the civic authorities and administration did not wait for orders and took promt action at the earliest. Resident welfare association acted as pillars by keeping a watch on those in home quarantine.
