This might sound unbelievable but it’s true. A young man in Taiwan regained consciousness from coma after his brother mentioned the name of his favourite dish – Chicken Fillet – while sitting beside his bed at the hospital.
WHAT IS THE STORY?
Chiu, 18, from Hsinchu County, met with an accident while riding his scooter in July. He was severely injured and was immediately rushed to the hospital, Taiwan News reports. Doctors said that his internal organs were damaged and emergency surgeries were performed as well. However, Chiu slipped into coma.
Hsieh Tsung-hsin, director of the Intensive Care Unit at Ton Yen General Hospital, said that his liver and right kidney were in bad shape as were his other organs. In fact, Chiu underwent six surgeries including splenectomy, liver repair and craniotomy. While doctors made every attempt to revive Chiu, ultimately all of them said that he will be able to survive only if he has the willpower to make it through.
HOW DID CHIU REVIVE?
Chiu’s family prayed for his recovery constantly, a nurse told Taiwan News. He was in coma for over two months, and on the 62nd day, Chiu’s brother, who was seated beside his bed in the hospital, said in jest to lighten the mood, “Brother, I’m going to eat you your favourite chicken fillet.”
Moments later, Chiu’s pulse rate increased and he regained consciousness. His vital stats stabilized as well.
Soon after, Chiu recovered and was discharged from the hospital. He also thanked his medical team with a big cake for their efforts to save his life.
